Can a project radically transform a run-down neighbourhood while tackling water scarcity, energy poverty, and social fragmentation?
The European project NatUR-W is proving that it can. Selected in the first call of the European Urban Initiative (EUI-IA), NatUR-W is an innovative effort that turns Lorca’s urban challenges into opportunities through Nature-based Solutions (NbS).
Key elements of the project:
- Integrated Water Management: Rainwater collection, natural filtration through biofilters, and sustainable reuse for irrigation and climate control.
- Community Engagement: More than 100 local stakeholders involved in co-design workshops and key decision-making processes.
- Technological Innovation: The GreenThermoWall (GTW), a sustainable system that enhances thermal insulation while boosting urban biodiversity.
Discover how Lorca is becoming a European benchmark for urban resilience and environmental sustainability.
